Stretch Marks
Condition Description
Stretch Marks are a type of scarring left by a phenomenon of skin tears. They are caused by excessive stretching of the skin.
Stretch Marks are common during pregnancy, puberty, weight training, and in people who are obese or using topical creams containing stronger steroids.
The use of oral steroids and strong creams can also increase the risk of developing stretch marks.
Stretch Marks that are relatively new have a red or purplish hue and are scientifically called striae rubra. Older stretch marks are white or silver and are called striae alba.
How to Treat
There is no treatment that can completely remove stretch marks. The proposed treatments aim to improve their appearance.
To do so, we will promote the production of new collagen and elastin to restore the skin's elasticity and firm it up. To reduce redness (if applicable), certain vascular lasers are suggested. Stretch marks are sometimes associated with excessive pigmentation in darker skins.
Our professionals will suggest the treatment or combination of treatments that best suits your condition.
