Scars
Condition Description
There are various types of scars and skin imperfections. Scars can be thick, thin, sunken in the skin, or stretched.
Scars are caused by skin trauma: accidents, burns, surgeries, or severe acne. Their most common colors vary from flesh-colored to red, white, or brown.
Severe acne, episodes of abscesses, or inflammatory cysts often cause scars. They may appear as deep indentations in the skin and/or be wavy in nature.
Keloid and hypertrophic scars evolve by becoming thick, red, firm, and tend to be itchy. The appearance of keloids and hypertrophic scars seems to be related to genetics and may be more common on the shoulders, chest, upper back, and ears.
How to Treat
The proposed treatment will be dictated by the nature and severity of the scars and their evolution.
There are many treatment options. It is possible to improve the appearance of the skin with laser treatments or injections.
In some cases, it will be recommended to remove part or all of the scar by traditional surgery or laser.
