Actinic Keratosis
Condition Description
Actinic or solar keratoses (AKs) are thick, rough patches of light brown or red color.
In addition to being unsightly, a small number of them can sometimes develop into skin cancer. They are caused by long-term exposure to sunlight or artificial UV rays.
These keratoses often appear along with other sun damage. It is recommended that you consult your family doctor so that they can make an accurate diagnosis and suggest the appropriate treatment.
Some people are more at risk of developing actinic keratoses, such as those with pale skin and eyes, blond hair, or those who are overexposed to the sun, such as people who work outdoors.
How to Treat
It is possible to remove actinic keratosis using laser or liquid nitrogen. A treatment to regenerate the skin surface will be added.
Factors such as the size, number, and location of the keratoses must be taken into consideration in the choice of treatment, as well as the patient's aesthetic expectations and previous medical history.
