Cholesterol Deposits on the Eyelids
Condition Description
Cholesterol deposits on the eyelids (xanthelasma) are a thickening of yellow fat or bumps that occur under the skin of the eyelids. Although there is no discomfort, these deposits can be unpleasant and unsightly.
Heredity may play an important role in the appearance of these cholesterol deposits. This condition can also affect people who have high levels of cholesterol in their blood.
It is recommended that you see your doctor for a blood test, as half of the people affected by this condition have elevated blood cholesterol.
Once the cholesterol deposits have been removed, you can consider treatment to give your eyes more definition.
How to Treat
They can be treated with trichloroacetic acid (TCA), laser, or traditional surgery. Sometimes a combination of different treatment approaches is ideal.
Our professionals will evaluate the condition before suggesting the most appropriate treatment.
