Cysts and Lipoma
Condition Description
Cysts are sacs that form in the skin and are flesh-colored. They can appear almost anywhere on the body.
Epidermal inclusion cysts form when the top layer of skin touches the dermis. They appear on the neck, face, trunk, and scalp. They grow slowly and are painless unless they are traumatized, irritated, infected, or inflamed.
Lipomas are soft, fatty lumps that grow between the skin and muscle tissue. They move easily to the touch and are usually painless.
Hair cysts (trichilemmal) are caused by hair follicles and usually on the scalp.
Cysts tend to be benign. You should see a doctor to confirm this.
How to Treat
The most effective treatment is to remove the entire cyst by surgical excision or sometimes by laser.
As a rule, it is best to wait until the inflammation subsides before proceeding with surgical removal of an infected cyst to allow for optimal healing results.
Following the initial assessment, we will be able to recommend treatment options.
