Gums show or gummy smile describes the condition in which when a person smiles a significant portion of their gums are exposed. This is due to the fact that the upper lip goes too far up on the mouth when smiling. This is also sometimes referred to as a hypermobile lip. A high lip line can cause confidence issues and affect one's self-esteem often to the point where a person forces their lips closed when they smile or hides their smile altogether.
